Just a week before our opening in 2013 we found this stray Terrier a six-month puppy and fell in love with her. She was abandoned and was left on the front steps to a neighbor’s house. She then became the furrier member of your family “OREO” as our daughter named her. Very calm in character, she has a deep look and a thank full expression in her face. She likes the water and loves to go to the beach with us.
Caressed by the warm winds of the Atlantic and surrounded by history and culture, Casa Sol is the first Bed & Breakfast located within legendary Old San Juan.
Its guests enjoy the experience of lodging in a colonial building built in the eighteenth century, which has been restored and decorated to reach a modern ambiance by its owners Eddie Ramírez and Margarita Pastor. Casa Sol is a piece of architecture that evokes the past, but offers commodity to the modern traveler that searches for personal attention in a cozy and family friendly ambiance.
From our B&B, located on Calle Sol in Old San Juan, our guests can start their way through San Juan or any other spot in Puerto Rico. Old San Juan is the parting spot for any touristic tour because its buildings tell the story of the life in the capital, which started over five hundred years ago, and that is the economic, political, and cultural center of the country.
Casa Sol is steps away from the imposing forts San Cristóbal and San Felipe, built to protect San Juan from invasions under the Spanish government, and the Palacio de Santa Catalina (or “La Fortaleza”), the historical residence of the governor, and the Capitol, home for the country’s legislative branch. Also, there are several churches and museums that complement the architectonic jewel that is this city.
When entering Casa Sol, take yourself to the past. Historical documents suggest that the buildings on Calle Sol, where our B&B is located, were built to serve as warehouses or residences to the national guards who protected the bay of San Juan.
The area was known as Barrio Santa Bárbara. It neighbored Polvorín de San Sebastián, built in 1791 to store the gunpowder that supplied the Fort of San Cristóbal and other close quarters. At the beginning of the twentieth century, El Polvorín was substituted by Abraham Lincoln School, which can be seen from Casa Sol.
Nevertheless, the structure of the Casa de Guardia is still preserved, it housed Spanish soldiers who were on duty. When you walk around Calle Sol, let your imagination connect with a determining era in Puerto Rican history and take some of it with you.
Casa Sol awaits for you… Just relax and let history speak to you.
